Abstract

A case of non-specific ulcerative proctitis with pyramidal tract signs and a low serum IgA level is described. Clinical remission, along with partial recovery of
neurological damage and complete restoration of serum IgA level, is noticed following conventional chemotherapy. It is postulated that depressed local gut immunity may be responsible for entry of unknown agents to produce tissue injury at a distant site.
