Abstract

The records of cardiac cases registered in the Benghazi Cardiology Unit were analyzed retrospectively. From 1940 cases registered, 412 (21.2%) were diagnosed as chronic valvular heart disease. Male to female ratio was 1:1.74, Two hundred and seventeen of these cases (52.7%) had a history of rheumatic fever and another 57 patients (13.8%) had repeated U.R.T.I. The data also analyzed for age, sex, housing conditions, nutritional status, and other parameters available, and the results are discussed.
