Abstract

The definition of granulomatous mastitis was described. An analysis of breast lesions was done to identify the incidence, histological and clinical presentation of
Idiopathic granulomatous lobular mastitis among Libyan women.
Sex hundreds and seventy two cases of breast lesions were examined in the pathology department of Al-Fateh University during a 15 year of period (1980 – 1994). There were 13 cases of idiopathic granulomatous lobular mastitis, constituting 1.9 perrcent of total biopsies of breast lesions. The diagnostic criteria of breast biopsies is described.
This study indicates the importance of such an analysis, and we hope it will increase awareness of the pathologists and surgeons to this condition among Libyan females.
