Abstract

Abnormal glycolysation in Diabetes mellitus alters the blood dynamics and the oxygen affinities of haemoglobin, and Causes Changes in membrane Characteristics of erythrocytes. These alterations Contribute to vascular complications aggravated by tissue hypoxia, leading to tissue damage. Such complications may be minimised by early detection of hyperglycaemia, early normalization of blood glucose by therapy and stringent control throughout.
