Abstract

The shape of the pupil of 2000 ophthalmology patients of different age, sex, colour of the iris and error of refraction was observed after instillation in both eyes of phenylephrine hydrochloride 10%. In all cases, the pupil was found to acquire an oval shape during dilation with phenylephrine but returned to its circular shape after full dilatation. This observation is discussed.
