Abstract

The proportion of diabetic retinopathy in 1000 patients that attended the diabetic eye clinic from June to December, 1982 were studied in relation to age, sex, and duration-of diabetes. The average proportion of 16.30% was found with retinopathy with a direct relationship to increasing age and duration of diabetes. There was no significant relationship found with either sex or type of diabetes to retinopathy. This study suggest that diabetic retinopathy figures for this country may be similar to other parts of the world and consequently perhaps some stress should be laid on case finding and management of diabetes and its complications.
