Abstract
Objectives: To determine whether placenta praevia affects birth weight or not. Design: Case control study. Setting: Alkhadra university hospital, Tripoli. Population: All babies of mothers with placenta praevia who were delivered in Alkhadra hospital from January 2001 to March 2005. Total number of Patients were 44, 32 of them were at term, 7 were preterm pregnancy and 5 were at term but with diabetes mellitus. (Two gestational diabetes and three type 1 Diabetes). Methods: Confirmed placenta praevia by ultrasound and intraoperative findings, main outcome measures the birth weight of all babies who were delivered by caesarean section due to placenta praevia. Results: The results indicate that placenta praevia did not alter the birth weight of babies. Conclusion: Placenta praevia does not affect the birth weight.
