Abstract

Donovanosis, also known as granuloma inguinale and granuloma venereum, is a chronic, sexually transmitted, granulomatous disease of the genitals and the adjoining tissue caused by Donovania granulomatis which is apleomorphic, gram negative bacillus varying from 1-2 μm in length and 0.5—0.4 μm in width. The disease is rare as compared to other sexually transmitted diseases and is commoner in males than females. A case seen recently by us is being reported. It is probably the first report of this disease from the Libyan Jamahiriya.
