Abstract

We report a new case of neonatal empyema thoracis in a 7 days old Down syndrome newborn baby who was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) soon after birth with respiratory distress, and who responded very well to treatment with intravenous antibiotics and a single pleural tap. We present to our knowledge the first patient from Libya with a short review of the available literature regarding this condition.
