Keywords: Visceral leishmaniasis (Vl) is a tropical disease caused by protozoan leishmania donovani. The chief clinical features of the disease include prolonged fever, abdominal distension, loss of appetite, pallor, hepatosplenomegaly with pancytopenia and hyperglobulinaemia. It is potentially fatal if left untreated or diagnosed late. In this article an epidemiology review of leishmaniasis in Libya is presented.
