Abstract

The rind of punica granatum linn(p. granatum) and seeds of trigonella foenum-graecum (T.foenum-graecum) are used in folk medicine in many countries for treatment of peptic ulcer. The present study aimed at evaluating the anti- ulcer activity of p. granatum and T.foenum-graecum seeds, and their possible mechanism(s) of action. This was established by investigating the effects of orally administered single and repeated doses of aqueous extracts of p. granatum rind or T.foenum-graecum seeds on cold restraint stress-induced and aspirin-induced gastric ulcer in rats.
