Abstract

One Hundred and Eighty cases of trochanteric fractures of femur treated in Al-Jalla Hospital were reviewed. It was found that internal fixation enables earlier mobilisation and morbidity is considerably reduced. However the technique of internal fixation in unstable fractures needs proper attention since most of the failures are likely to be in this group. Unstable fractures are better treated with primary medial displacement osteotomy and fixation while stable fractures can be fixed after reduction.
