Fatal and Non-fatal acute Poisoning: an analysis of 193cases

Abstract

This is a retrospective study reviewing the cases of acute poisoning admitted to 7th October hospital/ Benghazi in the period of two years. Number of cases was 193 cases (3% of total hospital admission). 143 were female (74.1) , mean age was 23.5 years. The commonest single substance was a pesticide (organophosphorus) in 34.2% of patients. The suicidal attempting reported in 6.2% of the patients, where as 77.2 was parasuicidal.
