Abstract

Any health care system reflects the social, political, economic and cultural character of a nation. A nation’s historical roots and dominant values shape policies and direct the organization, quality, financing and access to health care services. The transformation to a NSHI system is not only socially desirable or politically motivated but also an economic necessity. People appear to be less satisfied with tax-funded system of national health service, the “U.K model”, and least satisfied with private insurance, “the US model”. This article describes a proposed model of NSHI system as a third option to deliver health care to all Libyan citizens.

Keywords: National, Health care, Service, Private insurance, Single payer, Social.
