Abstract

The overall mean annual incidence of non — insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM type 2) in Benghazi based on prospective registration of patients during the period 1.1 1981 to 31.12.1990 was 0.193/100 population (males 0.171/100, females 0.215/100). The incidence rate rose with age and peaked in 50—54 years age group in both sexes.
The incidence rate was significantly higher in females (p< 0.01). It was concluded that after the control of endemic diseases, diabetes mellitus is emerging as a major health problem in Libya. Keywords: Incidence of Non-Insulin - Dependent Diabetes (Type 2) in Benghzai, Libya (1981 - 1990) Link/DOI:
