Abstract
Lactation, in its simplest form, is an extremely antiquarian physiologic function, probably dating some 200 million years. It offers unique biological and emotional influence upon both mother and offspring. Across sectional study involved Libyan health care personnel dealing with maternal and child health services . The study carried out to find the knowledge ,attitudes and practices of health care personnel towards breast feeding as well as comparison between physicians and nurses. The study revealed that the knowledge of health care personnel regarding breast feeding was in general good, there were significant differences between the knowledge of physician and nurses in the maternal and child benefits of breast feeding but there were no significant differences in the knowledge about rooming-in. The study strongly recommended that implementation of continuous medical education programmes regarding issues concerning mother and child health to all health care personnel working in mother and child health services.
