Abstract

Out of fourteen ureteral injuries treated during 1976-81, nine were after gynaecological operations. Four of these cases presented with uretero-vaginal fistulae. Three patients had unilateral ligation of ureter and presented with pyelonephritis. One patient had an urea due to bilateral ligation of ureters. It is stressed that in the immediate post-operative period, deep seated loin pain and/or an urea should raise the possibility of ureteral injury and managed accordingly unless proved otherwise. Management of these cases is discussed and literature reviewed.
