Abstract
Twenty-nine cases of partial patellectomy were studied. Excision of the distal fragment gave better results and was technically easier than excision of the proximal fragment. Also, avascular necrosis was more common when the distal fragment was excised and did not affect the function of the knee joint.
Suturing of the ligamentum patellae nearer to the articular surface of the patellar fragment prevents tilting of the fragment.
