Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of using the partogram on foetal outcome. The study was designed as a longitudinal observational comparative study. It was carried out at Tripoli Medical Centre, department of obstetric and gynaecology, in Tripoli, for a period of nine months. The labour progress of two hundred women was recorded graphically and partogram curves were categorized using the WHO partogram , to compare the early detection of prolonged labour and foetal outcome, three hundred patients whom have had no partogram used with them were taken as a comparative group, mode of delivery and the foetal outcome were studied. Conclusions : the use of partogram was of benefit for the maternal and foetal outcome in all parameters, this beneficial outcome is due to instant decisions and early interventions , in the right time, by the aid of the partogram.
