Abstract
A prospective study for period of two years in Ibn Sina polyclinic, Benghazi, Libya identified 442 patients of hypertension. Of these 143 (32.4%) were males, and 299 (67.6%) were females. Four hundred twenty six had primary hypertension and 16 had secondary hypertension. Risk factors, such as diabetes mellitus smoking and obesity were analyzed. Hypertension with associated morbid conditions was also analyzed. There was good response in 305 (69%) patients, using nifedipine, atenolol, diuretics, captopril and methyldopa to control hypertension.
