Abstract

A 1-year prospective study of 16 563 deliveries in hospital in Benghazi (Libya) revealed the perinatal and neonatal mortality rates of 27.5 and 21.07 per 1000, respectively. The significant determinants of high mortality were major congenital malformation, antepartum haemorrhage, maternal diabetes, birth asphyxia, and septicaemia/meningitis.
