The prevalence of hypertension in childhood is relatively low. This study involved 300 diabetic children and adolescents (141 males & 159 females) aged 5-25 years. Patients were subdivided to five subgroups according to age, and blood pressure of both arms was taken in two consecutive visits at least 4 weeks apart. Results showed 23 patients (7.6%) found to be hypertensive (16 females and 6 males). Our conclusion that diabetes is an important metabolic risk factor for development of hypertension.
