Abstract

It has been suggested that prostaglandins play an important role in the mechanism of action of intra-uterine contraceptive device (IUCD) – In the present report, data from a study on 50 cases are given. These data indicate an increased turnover of prostaglandin E1 in the human endometrium tissue due to IUCD insertion. Prostaglandin turnover was higher in the secretory than in the prolferative phase of menstrual cycle. It is suggested that this increased turnover may be related to the contraceptive action of the IUCD.
