Abstract

Sporotrichosis is a chronic, deep mycoses that follows accidental implantation of the fungous Sporothrix schenckii into the skin from where it may spread via the lymphatics or disseminate hematogenously to bones, joints and other organs. Lesions in the lungs may follow aspiration of the fungus. The disease is rather rare and occurs sporadically in different parts of the world. A case recently seen by us is being reported. This is probably the first report of human sporotrichosis from the Libyan Jamahiriya.
