While database systems have accelerated the growth of data storage needed, other computer techniques have changed the way this storage is used. Interactive computing has led to highly data retrieval, usage and storage. Some of the special statistical problems associated with the design and analysis of observational studies arising from medical database are reviewed, special attention is recommended to the adequacy of the intended data to provide information from which to draw valid statistical inferences.
