Abstract

Two groups of children preschool 34, school 39 were studied for Symptomatic Urinary Tract Infection (UTI). The most common clinical features were loin pain (56.4%), fever (50.0%) in school, preschool group respectively, in school group fever was more common in those with urological abnormality vs those without (p <.005). The diagnostic sensitivity of microhaematuria in a urine specimen as indicator for symptomatic UTI is more reliable than WBC in the school group (p <0.007). Urological abnormality is more common in male school children than female (p < 0.02). Early diagnosis and radiological investigation of symptomatic UTI in children are needed particularly in males.
