Abstract

Between December 1989, and May 1991 (18 months duration), 4 children were admitted to Tripoli Children Hospital (unit A), and diagnosed as tuberculosis peritonitis. The mean age was 9.25 years (range 4-18 years). All were female, and all had BCG immunization as evidenced by their record card and the presence of BCG scar. Tuberculin test was negative in two cases. Acid fast bacilli were not detected in all peritoneal paracentesis specimens.
These four cases state the fact that tuberculosis remains a relatively common problem despite the improvement of living conditions, and the obligatory use of BCG immunisation programme.
