Abstract

A 10-year retrospective survey of 618 thyroidectomy specimens shows that in western Libya simple goitre is the commonest cause of thyroid enlargement. The incidence of thyrotoxicosis seems to be increasing and the proportion of malignant goitres is higher than is usually reported in similar surveys from other general hospitals.
