Abstract

An 11-year retrospective survey of 706 Thyroidectomy specimens in North — Eastern of part of Libya shows that there were 602 females and lo4malesgivinga sex ratio of 6 :1. 49.5% had simple goitre, 25.2% had adenoma, 10.33% had carcinoma, 5.8% had Grave’s disease, 4.5% had various types of thyroiditis. Simple goitre is the commonest cause of thyroid swelling. Incidence of thyroid carcinoma is higher than that reported from Europe and U.S.A.
