Abstract

In 18 patients, with full thickness loss of the volar surface of the thumb, the transfer of a neurovascular island flap was performed according to Littler’s technique over a period of three years, from January 1981 to December 1983. Results were evaluated in 14 of these patients on the basis of sensory tests, general hand function, and cosmetic appearance. Two point discrimination (2PD) over the flap area was almost equal to the equivalent area on the opposite middle and/or ring finger. Overall the results were very good.
