Abstract

Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) is the second commonest malignancy of childhood observed in Benghazi area. Most of the cases reporting to El Fatah children’s’ hospital are from the Eastern zone of Libya. Twenty one cases of ALL, admitted in the Haematology and Oncology Unit of El Fatah children’s hospital during the years of 1980 and 1981 were studied. Their mode of presentation, the various investigations, the therapy administered and the subsequent results were compared with the data available from other parts of the world. The present incidence recorded may appear to be low because some cases might have gone to other centres and some might have died even before they could report to this hospital. The complete remission rate in these twenty one cases of ALL was 66.6 percent. The short comings which were faced during the management of these cases are mentioned and the necessary improvements are suggested.
