Abstract

Prevalence of cystic echinococcosis was studied among the live stock slaughtered in abattoir of Benghazi, Libya during the period January to July 1997. The overall infection rate of 1.02% in sheep, 4.65% in goats, 1.01% in cattle and 1.97% in camels was observed. Seropositivity of 1.66% was found inthe random university students.
The present data on prevalence of cystic echinococcosis in animals and human beings are compared with the prevalence of disease in some other Arab countries and Libyan Arab Jamahiriya respectively.
