Abstract
A stool survey of Benghazi schoolchildren showed an overall infection rate of 27.6%. Of the pathogenic parasites, a Comparatively higher incidence of Giardia lamblia and Hymenolepis nana, and a low incidence of E. histolytica, Ascaris, Strongyloides and hookworm was found. Infection rates were not significantly linked to age group or sex of children. Eosinophilia was not apparent in helminth infections. The epidemiology of intestinal parasitoses is discussed in relation to diagnosis, clinical manifestations and childhood development.
