Abstract

Infestation with Echinococcus granulosus is common in Libya. Plants contaminated by eggs of the tapeworm passed in the dog’s faeces may be ingested by man giving rise to hydatid disease. The following four cases presented as acute surgical emergencies which after exploration proved to be due to hydatid disease.
It is recommended that in dealing with cases of acute abdomen in areas where the disease is common, Hydatid disease should be taken into consideration.
